ON-THE-FARM DESIGN WORKSHOPS

Nestled in the heart of the White Mountains our farm boasts scenic views, abundant blooms, and a pristine landscape. Throughout the summer months our gardens are bountiful with seasonal flowers used for bouquets and event design. Our blossoms are sustainably grown from seed, harvested, and brought straight from the fields into our design studio.

Each workshop will take place in our field barn surrounded by our gardens where you can gather inspiration from rows of overflowing blooms while you make your design. Each participant to have a dazzling display of precut flowers to use.

We offer several unique, hands-on learning opportunities for flowers lovers. If learning in an open and relaxed environment, expanding your knowledge and creativity, master the fundamentals of floral design, or just have fun—these workshops are for you. They also make a great gift for a flower lover!

DESIGNING WITH THE SEASONS

Each workshop includes an in-depth tour of our farm where we discuss our crop choices and operations. While our farm stand is open to the public, our gardens are not, so this provides participants a private tour. You may ask any questions regarding any part of our operation—from farming to design, Vanessa will share all her knowledge with you! You will have the opportunity to snip your own blossoms as well as learn tricks to cutting and our post-harvest procedures. After the tour, you will be greeted with an array of precut flowers, and your design stations set with all the tools you need. Vanessa will demonstrate a garden inspired composition and then set you to create your own. We will provide support, tips, and tricks to make your arrangement unique and beautiful!

Workshops are limited to 8–12 participants. No experience required—from hobbyists to experienced growers and designers, these workshops cater to all levels. Classes run about 4 hours and are non-refundable. A take home vase for your arrangement, clippers, notebooks/pens, source packets, and refreshments will be provided. You will receive a workshop timeline and directions to the farm prior to your workshop.

*Our workshops typically sell out quickly so please mark your calendars with a reminder for the day registration opens so you’ll be sure to get a spot. Confirmation of registration will be your PayPal receipt which will be sent to the email used upon checkout.

*If severe weather restricts us from a workshops full potential we will reschedule. If you are not able to accommodate rescheduled date you will be refunded workshop cost. Otherwise, workshops are non-refundable.

MID SUMMER BOUNTY

High summer is when all of our annual crops explode! Participants will have a chance to work with a plethora of flowers in unique varieties, colors, and shapes. Seasonal flowers may include snapdragons, sweet peas, lisianthus, foxglove, cosmos, phlox, zinnias, and so much more! Flowers may vary by workshop. Participants will use these beautiful flowers and foliage to create an overflowing garden inspired arrangement in a beautiful custom made Tarrnation vase by TShea Pottery. This is a 4-hour workshop. Lunch and refreshments are provided.


DAHLIA DAZE

Dahlias are the queen of our gardens from August through September. We grow many varieties ranging from Dinner Plate to Ball, both in the greenhouse and outside in the fields. Participants will learn how to arrange with the different varieties and shapes of these multi-layered blooms, the proper technique for cutting, as well as tips on our post-harvest procedures, growing techniques and disease and pest control. You will not only be able to walk through and snip from our field crop but also from our abundant greenhouse crops. Participants will use these beautiful flowers and foliage to create a garden inspired arrangement in a custom-made Tarrnation vase by TShea Pottery. This is a 4-hour workshop. Resource packets, notebooks, take home tubers, lunch, and refreshments are provided.


MINI CREATIVE WORKSHOPS

These workshops are on a smaller scale geared towards folks that want to gather for an hour or two at our farm and create. If you are looking for more of an intensive, informational, and hands on workshop experience, please see the above workshop series. Participants will be provided with all the tools needed to build your take home creation. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments included. These workshops will last 1–2 hours. Limited to 8–12 participants. Ages 16+.

*These workshops do NOT include a guided tour of our farm OR a self-guided tour. Q&A regarding our farm and operation also will not be given.

FLOWER CROWNS

We provide absolutely everything you need and teach you all the techniques to make a crown from start to finish. These are skills are easily replicated at home. These are popular for those wishing to learn flower crowns for wearing to weddings and festivals. You will use a variety of beautiful fresh flowers and foliage, even some dried ingredients too!

MASON JAR ARRANGEMENTS

This is the most popular Farmer’s Market item we offer! You will learn how to make a simple bouquet or a handful of flowers from your garden shine set in a small mason jar for your home or office! This is great if you buy local flowers weekly or have a small cutting garden and you want to learn simple ways of filling a jar with blooms. Freshly cut farm flowers will be available to create your arrangement.


Meet the Instructor

Vanessa Tarr is owner, grower, and lead designer at Tarrnation Flower Farm. She has been working the land with her father since high school and has also worked on farms in Spain, Panama, Washington, and throughout New England. She has been in the floral industry as a farmer and designer for the past 18 years. Vanessa has studied in person with some of the top designers and farmers in the country including Nicolette Camille (of Nicolette Camille Floral), Jill Rizzo (of Studio Choo), and Erin Benzakein (of Floret Flower Farm). She has also taken online courses with Jennie Love (of Love N’ Fresh Flowers) , Sue McLeary (of Passion Flower Sue), Gretel & Steve Adams (of Sunny Meadows Flower Farm). She has extensive knowledge in workshop preparation and has assisted in eight Floret workshops and has taught her own workshops for the past 3 years. She is excited to be teaching and sharing her knowledge while inviting students to her farm for a hands-on experience!
